About Okaukuejo Camp

A large camp within Etosha National Park known for its waterhole and plentiful wildlife.
Okaukuejo Camp lies 17 kilometres from Etosha National Park, and is both the park's administrative headquarters and home to the Etosha Ecological Institute, which works to conserve the fauna and flora of this region. Dating from 1957, the camp has since been renovated and modernised, but has lost none of its original game-viewing appeal, with its well-known floodlit waterhole visited by any number of game and birds. Observe the animals at close range and stay in comfortable accommodation, safe in the knowledge that you're in a great wildlife area, and that you can refuel your vehicle when you leave!

Property details

The property

The restaurant and bar offer refreshments and good meals, while the swimming pool is a welcome sight on hot days. The waterhole is a hub of animal activity from the early hours of the morning. A wide range of game congregate in close proximity to the camp to quench their thirst, especially in winter. You will find the following facilities at Okaukuejo Camp: a curio shop, a petrol station, camping facilities and a look-out tower.

The rooms

Accommodation ranges from camping site to en-suite chalets. The Waterhole Chalets, available as double or two-bedroom units, overlook the waterhole, allowing guests to view game from their patio or balcony. The spacious Bush Chalet includes a lounge and barbecue area. The comfortable Double Rooms have a fridge and facilities to make tea or coffee. If you're camping, reserve a site far from the communal ablution facilities, where visitors often meet and stop to chat.

Activities

The main attraction of Okaukuejo Camp is its central floodlit waterhole, which animals visit night and day – black rhino may visit in the evening. Take a guided morning, afternoon or evening game drive; and we recommend that birdwatchers take a special tour to look out for Etosha's 340 bird species, especially in summer, when the rains transform the pans into seasonal lakes that attract migratory and wetland species. Of course, the pool will offer welcome relief from the heat.

What you'll love

Staying up late to watch the action around the waterhole. There's no closing time here so forget going to bed and see what you can spot...

Insiders Tip

Pick a waterhole chalet and you won't have to stumble far for the best views in the park - and at very affordable prices too.
Something to think about

Something to think about

This is a big resort with lots of rooms, so don't be surprised if the restaurant is busy and there are lots of comings and goings (people not wildlife!). If you're looking for a more exclusive experience then a smaller lodge might be more up your street.
