Olakira is a classic mobile tented camp that moves between two locations - Ndutu in the South (December - March) and Mara in the North (June - November) of the Serengeti. Olakira’s main area consists of two tents, a dining tent and a lounge tent, adjacent to one another. Comfortable furniture and a small library create a cosy, homely atmosphere. The dining tent is geared for banquet style eating with mesmerising views of the bush and beyond. The campfire is the ultimate spot to recount the day’s highlights, putting your feet up while sipping an ice cold beverage.
Olakira Camp has nine en-suite tents, including one family tent, set out in a linear fashion, leading towards the communal areas. Elegantly laid out, each tent is spacious and well appointed with a writing desk, hanging cupboard and external private veranda from which to survey the mesmerising surroundings. The tents are very well spaced, giving guests the sense that they are alone and at one with this rugged wilderness.
Game drives, game drives and more game drives! When the game viewing is this plentiful, and the guides this knowledgeable, game drives are more than enough to quench your sense of wonder. In line with normal national park regulations, there are no night drives or guided walks. All the more opportunity to make the most of the day and use the nights to recharge beside the fire in preparation for the next day's adventures.
Each bedroom now comes complete with a magical ‘star gazing tent.’ Simply roll your bed under the mesh and enjoy the 270-degree views of the night sky outside as you slumber. Ingenious!
Whilst migration viewing is the name of the game, Olakira also offers hot air balloon flights, community visits and bush picnics when it’s in the north – definitely worth spending a couple of extra nights for.
Olakira is certainly luxurious for a migration camp, but it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a permanent camp so expect bucket showers and hearty meals rather than bathtubs and fine dining.
