The main area sits beneath a high thatched roof, consisting of a restaurant, separate lounge with a tall wood-burning heater, and an indoor bar. The feel is rustic and comfortable, decorated with beautiful woven baskets and intricate tribal masks. Meals are also served outdoors on the terrace, with wonderful views over the river and distant mountains. There are two swimming pools, one for lodge guests, and another for campers and day visitors, which has its own poolside bar.
There are several accommodation options at Palmwag, with 13 thatched standard rooms (including 2 family units which share a small splash pool), 4 secluded luxury tents, 10 tented chalets, and a number of campsites within the gardens. The chalets and luxury tents are well equipped, comfortable, and offer a relaxing retreat away from the busy main area. There’s also the option of spending a night or two under canvas in a special private bush camp within the concession.
Guided morning and afternoon game drives offer the chance to see a variety of wildlife: lions, cheetah, leopard and hyena are frequently seen, together with desert-adapted elephants, black rhino, and abundant birdlife. Explore the network of scenic hiking trails from the lodge, or take a guided bush walk further into the concession. A highlight is the afternoon game drive to a private bush camp to spend a night under canvas, and walk back to the lodge the next morning.
