About Paradise Plains

Eight suites, one river, zero rush - this is the Mara at its most patient.

Paradise Plains isn't a made-up name - it's the actual stretch of savannah the camp sits on, a stronghold for lion prides tracked by wildlife film crews for decades in the Maasai Mara's Musiara sector. The Wilder Group opened here in August 2025, right on the Mara River, with just nine suites: eight luxury doubles and one family suite, each with its own lounge and a second bathroom built around a deep copper bathtub. Think antique auction rather than safari-chic showroom - kilims, bone china, a proper wine cellar - with days built around game drives, hot air balloons and sundowners on Leopard Hill. New, but it doesn't act like it.

Property details

The property

Communal spaces lean toward heirloom with their velvety sofas, mismatched antiques, a scattering of kilims underfoot and a library for rainy afternoons. The dining tent looks straight out over the Mara River, while the bar lounge does the same for the plains beyond. A swimming pool with its own bar sits off to one side, plus a small spa, a gym and a well-stocked wine cellar that suggests someone here takes the evening pour quite seriously. The whole effect feels collected over decades.

The rooms

Spread across eight suites and one family suite (two connecting ensuite rooms, handy if you're travelling with kids), the camp stocks each private lounge like a library-bar hybrid: Smeg coffee machine, crystal decanters, board games and a fridge of treats served on bone china, not paper plates. The real draw is the second bathroom, built around a deep copper bathtub angled at the plains - soak here at dusk and you'll understand why nobody rushes their bath time.

Activities

Head out twice daily on game drives with Maasai guides, or rise before dawn for a hot air balloon over the plains, landing to a champagne breakfast laid out under a balanite tree (worth the early alarm, we promise). Evenings mean sundowners up on Leopard Hill, watching the light change over acacia scrub. Visit a Maasai manyatta to learn about the local culture, or simply keep your binoculars trained on the marsh - over 500 bird species have been recorded here.

Insiders Tip

Skip the in-camp sundowner and ask for Leopard Hill, from which you'll be able to watch evening unfold with acacia-dotted views stretching out below.

Something to think about

Something to think about

This sits inside the main Reserve, not a private conservancy, so there's no night driving or off-road tracking here - if that matters to you, look at camps over in Mara North instead.
