About Phum Baitang Resort

Infused with arcadian charm, Phum Baitang is an elixir for the soul.
With a name that means 'green village', you wouldn't expect anything less than acres of wafting palms, lemon grass meadows and a rice paddy where water buffalos can be seen dozing in the shade as you cycle by. Designed to mirror a quintessential Cambodian village, Phum Baitang is blissfully rustic. Leave your quaint wooden villa to take a dip in the tropical pool (with drinks at the bar) or saunter over to the Spa Temple where ancient rituals bring you back to life. Tucked away from any sign of busyness, the resort provides a bevy of cushioned spots to sink into and simply enjoy the tranquil surrounds and when you're re-energised, Siem Reap is just a tuk tuk ride away.

Property details

The property

At the end of palm-lined walkways, you'll find the large and very inviting saltwater pool and just next door, Bay Phsar serves zesty Khmer dishes - try the beef skewers with a sour pepper and lime dip, and a 'floating island' for pudding! A more continental menu can be enjoyed at Hang Bay, in a setting of leather couches and handmade decor. In a 100-year-old wooden house, the Sunset Lounge is a warming spot to enjoy wine from the owner's vineyards or a cocktail at sundown.

The rooms

In a village of stilted villas amidst the trees and streams, each wrapped in wood from roof to floor - you'll feel far from the real world. Inside, retro tables, pillow-soft couches and a plush bed furnish the open-plan living space. Despite their rural exteriors, the villas have a Nespresso machine, smart TV and sound system. Some have a breezy terrace while others come with the added bonus of a plunge pool beside a thatched garden sala. The bathrooms are rugged yet soothing with stone bathtubs and rain showers.

Activities

Luxuriate at the Angkor-inspired spa with coconut and raw honey scrubs, or join a master for yoga at the pavilion. Pick ingredients from the garden and markets, before learning how to prepare three traditional (and oh-so-tasty) meals. Once you've cycled the paddy fields and country roads to your heart's content, journey to the powerful ruins of Angkor Wat where centuries-old temples and libraries await. You can even receive a water blessing from a monk amongst the ornate carvings. Take a cruise on the large and shimmering Tonle Sap Lake and stop to visit one of the surreal floating villages.

Something to think about

The resort is further out of town than most of Siem Reap properties so it suits anyone wanting a good dose of down time.
