About Porini Mara Camp

Top-notch wildlife sightings at this Maasai-owned conservancy.
Leopards, a resident lion pride, thousands of wildebeest migrating across the landscape, baboons, elephants… the works, really. This is the wildlife you’re likely to experience at the Porini Mara Camp in the abundant Serengeti-Mara eco-system. The Maasai Mara National Park is a short drive away, but some guests prefer to stick to the serenity of the conservancy for game drives. Besides the wildlife, the guides are outstanding, the tents are decked out for the zip up/down and the food is amazing.

Property details

The property

The communal mess tent is a large open-sided canvas tent, with a lounge and dining area. There is also a tea and coffee station here. The lounge is made up of a cushioned wooden lounge suite with coffee table.Enjoy a cuppa before game drive here or a nightcap before bed. Dinner is served communally at the large wooden dining room table with 12 director’s chairs. Other meals can be enjoyed outside.

The rooms

The six guest tents, although utilitarian from the outside, have plush interiors with an ensuite bathroom with a flush toilet and hot-water safari shower. Don’t worry you won’t be overhearing your neighbours (only the sound of lions calling at night). The tents are adequately spaced out and all the verandahs face outwards so you can enjoy your morning cafe without burning your eyes. After dark, you’ll be escorted to and from your tent by a local guide.

Activities

You’re here for the wildlife but you’ll quickly become enamoured with the people of the area too. There are morning, evening and night drives so your wildlife cup will runneth over. Major activity highlights include guided walks with the local Maasai (not to be missed) and hot air ballooning over the area (which is followed by a champagne breakfast). Now that spells out bucket list experience, doesn’t it?
