Spread out over 2 levels and the beach, the main lodge is spacious, airy and romantic and, of course, makes the most of the heavenly views over the Lake and beyond. At the top is a decking area where breakfast and dinner are served and a small bar. Step down to the infinity pool and a smattering of sun loungers and then down again to the beach, where you’ll find another bar for post-watersports refreshments and a shady lunch spot.
Just 10 luxurious villas (including a swanky honeymoon suite and family villa) are dotted around the hillside, connected by a series of walkways. Décor is soothing and subtle so as not to distract from the jaw-dropping vistas. All have wonderful private decks, separate sitting rooms and vast bathrooms with romantic roll-top baths. Some villas are nearer the beach which can be quite a hike – we’re pretty partial to room 5 which has the best of both worlds.
Most activities at Pumulani are included in the price apart from scuba diving and motorised sports. If you pick only one activity, we highly recommend taking the speedboat to Cape Maclear and snorkelling among the Cichlid in possibly the clearest, bluest water we have ever seen. Also on offer are kayaking, waterskiing, sailing, and fishing trips and a variety of lovely nature and wildlife walks (or bike rides) around the surrounding areas and nearby villages.
