About Rio Celeste Hideaway Hotel

Mysterious, jungle-bound bungalows located along the surreal Rio Celeste.
When you first clap eyes on the Rio Celeste, it hardly seems possible for it to be such a shade of electric blue. As the legend goes, when God was finished painting the sky, the brushes were washed in this very river; in fact, it's the result of a special blend of minerals, but taking an early morning dip is just as magical either way. The Hideaway enjoys 1.5 miles of private river frontage and most of its communal spaces are as open as possible to take advantage of this tropical setting. When you're not off exploring the many corners of the Tenorio Volcano National Park, let your cares fall away with a few hours at the forest spa.

Property details

The property

Choosing to showcase the very best of the ravishing surrounds, the Hideaway's common areas are understated and nature-inspired. At the restaurant, Signature Kantala, enjoy scrumptious dishes like the ceviche tricolour or tuna ravioli (many ingredients are harvested from the hotel's garden). Afterwards, visit the Cantina Delirio for an intimate nightcap - and wake up refreshed to a morning, outdoor yoga session accompanied by the sound of the babbling river. In between excursions, enjoy a soak in one of three Jacuzzis, snooze by the pool, or grab a drink from the Blue Moon swim-up bar.

The rooms

Tucked amidst the greenery, there are 26 stilted 'jungalows' inspired by the traditions of Costa Rica's northern plains and all with breathtaking views from the patios. All mod cons, including satellite TV channels, air-con and dehumidifiers, are present and correct and the and canopied, pillow-top beds are dreamy. The walls are coloured by large prints of the scenery and wildlife, and the sitting areas feature dark-wood furnishings with mustard cushions -perfect for a steaming cup of Costa Rican coffee. Bathrooms enjoy double basins, biodegradable amenities, and a wonderful outdoor shower.

Activities

As one of Seven Natural Wonders of Costa Rica, the Rio Celeste is, of course, the star of any itinerary and the Hideaway Hotel has access to several exclusive swimming spots. Guests can also ride horseback on the banks, go tubing on the turquoise waters, or check out the spot where the river begins at the Llanos de Cortes waterfall. Explore the reserve along multiple hiking trails (spying birdlife in every direction) and visit Los Tenideros, a known gathering place of the elusive tapir.
