A two-bedroom bush homestead on the banks of Zambia’s Luangwa River.

Robin's House is an exclusive home away from home on the banks of Zambia’s impressive Luangwa River, set beneath a canopy of Ebony and Sausage trees. Formerly the family home and base for the well-known Robin Pope Safaris, this small thatched homestead offers a sole-use bush retreat with a dedicated team of staff on hand; a fabulous and relaxing safari experience, perfect for a family or small group of friends. The property falls within a game management area opposite South Luangwa National Park with a private pontoon over the river, making access to the Park quick and easy.

Property details

The property

This lovely thatched family home has a central living area with comfortable couches and an open-plan dining room. Meals are prepared by your personal chef, and served outside next to the swimming pool, or indoors beside the fire during chilly weather. The overall feel is one of relaxed bush living, with unobtrusive staff on hand to cater for all needs, leaving you free to enjoy this wonderful riverside home and set your own pace around the various game viewing activities.

The rooms

Two spacious, well-appointed bedrooms, one with a double bed, and the other with three single beds, are situated on either side of the lounge and dining area. Each has a huge en-suite bathroom with a bathtub, shower and toilet. The rooms are decorated in soft pastels, with bright cushions and throws, and mosquito nets. Large windows open onto the gardens which stretch all the way to the edge of the river and catch the breeze coming off the water.

Activities

A private vehicle and guide gives you complete freedom to plan your days as you wish. Game drives and guided bush walks take place across the river in South Luangwa National Park, renowned for excellent sightings, particularly elephants, buffalo, lions and leopards. Depending on water levels, boat cruises offer the chance to explore the waterways and lagoons, rich in birdlife. Children’s activities are geared according to age, and could include baking biscuits with the chef or visiting the local school.

Private houses in the bush usually come with numerous bedrooms, but Robin’s hits the spot for smaller families or couples travelling together.

You’ll have private access to the South Luangwa National Park via a pontoon, which is just a short drive from the front door.

If we’re being picky, you can tell that the house wasn’t necessarily designed for holiday-living and some of the rooms are a little dark.
