Surrounded by lush forest, Sahatandra is a collection of lime-green bungalows and a main lodge that houses the dining room and intimate bar. The setting is simple with lovely, light wood furnishings, signature green table runners and vases of indigenous flowers. The meals are hearty - especially the breakfasts of crepes and seasonal fruit - and will set you up well for a day of adventures. If you're not tuckered out from exploring, enjoy a film in the TV room or head to the pool for a chill-out session.
Scattered across the grounds is the collection of bungalows, as well as a double-storey building with the standard rooms. All rooms have large beds draped in mosquito netting and en-suite bathrooms with showers. The bungalows are markedly more spacious, with a sitting area, minibar, TV and private terrace for those early morning views, or evenings soaking up the atmosphere. There are also larger bungalows available for families.
There are plenty of opportunities to explore Andasibe-Mantadia National Park on foot, scanning the trees for lemurs of every shade including the largest species, indris! Even if you do spot them in the wild, we highly recommend a day at the Indri Special Reserve too. For a different point of view, enjoy a pirogue boat ride on the Pangalanes Canal, where birdlife flits across the water in a blur of colour. Along the way, look out for tiny, hidden chameleons and butterflies emerging from the leaves.
The island’s most popular wildlife destination is home to 13 lemur species and the intriguing indri.
