About Sapi Springs Camp

It's wildlife central at this remote concession adjacent to Mana Pools
Built into a riverine forest, Sapi Springs will captivate you with its simple charms and stripped-down atmosphere. This small camp sits beside the seasonal Sapi River in the Sapi Concession, which shares an unfenced border with Zimbabwe's Mana Pools National Park. Taken together, the area comprises 337,000 hectares of wilderness so special that it's been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For us, the lack of lavish trim, the size (there are just three rooms), and the small complement of staff give Sapi Springs just the right chord of rustic romance. You won't be disappointed.

Property details

The property

The sum total of Sapi's main area is a platform beneath a strangler fig in a dry riverbed. Yet the experience of sitting there, amid the forest, surrounded by birds in the day and the glow of lanterns at night, is indescribable. Despite its simplicity, everything is executed to perfection, from the impeccable place settings at dinner to the well-stocked drinks chest that makes up the bar. Dining is an absolute delight here and, somehow, a rather sophisticated affair.

The rooms

The three tents have a clever double-storey design, with a more traditional safari tent on the ground level (furnished with a comfortable double bed, desk, and an en-suite bathroom with toilet and shower). The upper platform is accessed via an outdoor flight of stairs. There, you'll find a second double bed separated from the elements by mosquito netting alone. The bedding is all down duvets and crisp linens, so you'll clearly be comfortable. Luxury takes many forms, after all.

Activities

This is one of the most compelling safari destinations in southern Africa. The opportunity to explore multiple habitats on foot with some of the best guides in the business is, in itself, a reason to come. Canoeing the seasonal waterways adds another dimension, as do the game drives. These take place all year, rain or shine, giving you the chance to view hundreds of species – elephant, lion, leopard, hyena, wild dog, buffalo, eland, zebra and other ungulates, and birds.

Zimbabwe

Mana Pools

A glossy Garden of Eden, famous for canoe trips and boating as well as drives and walking safaris.
