Comfortable resort-style lodge in the heart of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley.
Kenya’s Great Rift Valley is an iconic safari destination, with dramatic escarpments, vast open plains, and a staggering variety of wildlife. One of the best known reserves in this area is Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for the huge flocks of pink flamingos which nest along the shores of the lake and give it a beautiful rosy tinge. Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge is a large resort-style lodge just outside the National Park, with comfortable chalets and luxurious suites in magnificent gardens overlooking the lake – a fantastic option for a laid-back bush break in a relaxing setting.

Property details

The property

The main lodge area has a large indoor restaurant and bar which opens onto a wide, outdoor dining terrace overlooking the lake, where candlelit dinners are sometimes served. In the heart of the gardens is a lovely swimming pool with a sun deck, perfect for a lunchtime cocktail or two. Other facilities include a well-stocked curio shop, a sauna, and a secluded spa hut down at the edge of the lake.

The rooms

This large, sprawling lodge has 64 simple but stylish en-suite stone chalets, and 3 luxury suites set along a series of garden pathways, facing across the waters of Lake Nakuru. The interiors are warm and inviting (perhaps a little dated), with large twin or double beds beneath mosquito nets, comfortable armchairs, and colourful rugs under foot. Each chalet has a small, private patio in front, and larger suites have a lounge and dining room with a wonderful open fireplace.

Activities

Game drives in Nakuru National Park offer the chance to see the incredible spectacle of huge flocks of flamingos which feed and nest along the shores, literally turning the edge of the lake pink. Expect to see a variety of wildlife such as buffalo, lion, leopard and perhaps a rare black rhino, as well as a staggering diversity of birdlife. Take a picnic up to Baboon Cliff high above the lake, or visit the volcanic hot springs at Hell’s Gate.
