The main lodge area has a large indoor restaurant and bar which opens onto a wide, outdoor dining terrace overlooking the lake, where candlelit dinners are sometimes served. In the heart of the gardens is a lovely swimming pool with a sun deck, perfect for a lunchtime cocktail or two. Other facilities include a well-stocked curio shop, a sauna, and a secluded spa hut down at the edge of the lake.
This large, sprawling lodge has 64 simple but stylish en-suite stone chalets, and 3 luxury suites set along a series of garden pathways, facing across the waters of Lake Nakuru. The interiors are warm and inviting (perhaps a little dated), with large twin or double beds beneath mosquito nets, comfortable armchairs, and colourful rugs under foot. Each chalet has a small, private patio in front, and larger suites have a lounge and dining room with a wonderful open fireplace.
Game drives in Nakuru National Park offer the chance to see the incredible spectacle of huge flocks of flamingos which feed and nest along the shores, literally turning the edge of the lake pink. Expect to see a variety of wildlife such as buffalo, lion, leopard and perhaps a rare black rhino, as well as a staggering diversity of birdlife. Take a picnic up to Baboon Cliff high above the lake, or visit the volcanic hot springs at Hell’s Gate.
Watch white rhino wander among the fever trees and keep your binos ready for the phenomenal birdlife.
