About Sawela Lodge

Quiet lakeside resort in Lake Naivasha
If you’re looking for a break from the bustling capital city of Nairobi, then head to Sawela, just a 90 minute drive away on the peaceful shores of Lake Naivasha. But be warned - it's popular for conferences and weddings, so check if it’s booked before you go. If there are no events, the resort is tranquil and peaceful, influenced by its extensive gardens, the abundance of trees and its unique architecture. Enjoy a walk to the lake and marvel at the sight of hundreds of flamingoes, or chill out by the pool. Either way, you’re going to relax here.

Property details

The property

Slow down your pace at this lakeside hotel. Saunter from your room to the swimming pool, order a light lunch off the menu and enjoy it from the comfort of your sunlounger. Take a dip, read a book or stroll through the gardens and get some fresh air. The Cheetah restaurant is well set up, serving African and global cuisine and for the kids, there's a designated play area. And if you really need to catch up on some work, there's free WiFi in the public areas.

The rooms

Choose from the different room types: superior, deluxe, business deluxe or a plush business suite and take in the view from the large balconies facing the lake. All guest rooms are ensuite and have tea and coffee making facilities, a mini bar, satellite TV, bathrobes, mosquito nets and large comfortable beds. Rooms aren’t overly ornate but combine contemporary design with African art and curios. Interleading rooms are available, so too are rooms with lounges or two double beds in one.

Activities

Relaxation and fun are top priorities at Sawela; go on a boat ride on Lake Naivasha, spot a hippo or stretch your legs with a cycle around the grounds. Play football, volleyball or netball or go on a guided walk on the Sawela trail, where all the flora and fauna you encounter will be explained. A hike along Mt Longonot volcano can also be arranged, as can trips to Crescent Island Wildlife Sanctuary and Lake Baringo, both brimming with birds.
