The long mess tent is graciously decorated with velvet couches, several matching ottomans, a wooden coffee table and photographs depicting the highlights of the migration. Hosted communal dining takes place here too, around an oval silver-service dining room table. This main lounge overlooks a pre-dinner drinks area - the fireplace under the African night sky where the sounds of the African bush can be heard for miles around.
The six spacious meru-styled tents come with white-linen king-size beds, two wooden side tables, a writer's desk and a colourful kilim underfoot. Ensuite is your bathroom with a built-in basin, bucket shower, warm water and a flushing loo. Each tent has a daybed outside, overlooking the wildebeest calving grounds and a coffee table with two director's chairs, the perfect place to mark off your bird and animal sightings. Of the six tents, one is a family unit.
On safari, timing and location is everything and the Serian team has ensured the stars align for your Serengeti experience. To maximise your wildebeest encounters and predator sightings, guests get exclusive use of a 4WD safari vehicle, a dedicated guide and a spotter. You can off-road to follow a sighting, night drives are available and there is the opportunity to walk with Hadzabe hunter-gatherers. What’s more, picnic breakfasts and sundowners out in the field will leave you satiated and satisfied.
Serian's Serengeti South is owned by Alex Walker's Serian, and founded on a profound respect for Kenya and Tanzania's wildernesses and cultures. Central to their ethos is preserving these areas by managing human interaction with wildlife. As populations grow and resources strain, Serian emphasizes making conservation profitable for locals. Note: a conservancy fee applies but is not included in the nightly rate.
