The main guest area is centred around a large swimming pool and a pool relaxation deck within lush gardens and linked to the suites via raised wooden decks and walkways. Inside is an expansive, open-plan lounge with satellite television, a spa with sauna and steam room, and a small gym. Meals are served indoors next to the fire when it's chilly, or outside on the viewing deck, with traditional bush 'braais' (barbecues) under the skies in the open-air boma (open-air enclosure).
Six spacious suites with private patios are set around the tranquil garden and main swimming pool. High thatched ceilings with open beams add an element of nostalgic, safari romance to the otherwise modern interiors. Elegant king-sized beds, and lavish en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers overlook the surrounding mountains and valleys. Three suites have private plunge pools. All have air-conditioning.
Game drives and guided bush walks are geared towards guests’ preferences, and Shamwari is well-known for its excellent standard of game viewing. All of the Big Five species are present, plus cheetah and unusual species such as aardvark and brown hyena. Visits to the wildlife rehabilitation unit and research centres offer insights into the reserve’s strong conservation ethic. Between game viewing activities, enjoy spa treatments, work out in the gym, or simply relax around the swimming pool.
