About Shearwater Explorers Village

In walking distance of the Falls, you'll never run out of ways to be amazed at Shearwater.
At Shearwater Explorers Village, you'll never forget the close proximity of Victoria Falls. The thunderous roar of tumbling water is a constant companion and, on some mornings, the property even receives a shower from the Falls themselves. Set in pretty, wild gardens just 400 metres away from the famous waterfall, the lodge has a laidback, amiable atmosphere and locally-inspired decor. After tucking into a 'full Bushman's Breakfast, enjoy all the activities available, from helicopter flight to sunset cruises on the Zambezi. Then, in the evenings, fall asleep to the sound of the 'Smoke that Thunders'.

Property details

The property

The main lodge is mostly open-air, set beneath a thatched roof and furnished with powder-blue couches, slouchy deck chairs and lots of artwork. Relax in the lounge with a book from their collection or grab a drink from the bar to enjoy beside the two-tier pool. The Shearwater Cafe serves fabulous dishes including freshly-caught Zambezi Bream, aged Zimbabwean steaks and crocodile wasabi wraps - as well as a more continental selection! If you're in need of some pampering, the spa offers soothing massages.

The rooms

There is a variety of rooms and thatched chalets across the 'Village'. They are well-lit and simply but effectively decorated in shades of sage-green, yellow and khaki. Palm motifs adorn the walls and little details like leaf-shaped, hand-woven light fixtures are very pretty. Each room has double or twin beds with a mossie net (if needed), USB charging points, air-con, and a private veranda and sitting area. The bathrooms feature a rain shower and large mirror. There is also the option of camping in one of the dome tents.

Activities

There are plenty! Take a walk to Victoria Falls, stopping at the many viewpoints for the best photographs, hike into the gorge, or enjoy an adrenaline rush with a bungee jump, bridge swing or zipline excursion. For the truly adventurous, there is river rafting down some of the biggest Grade 5 rapids in the world and helicopter flights for the ultimate views. You can also visit an elephant sanctuary and spend time in their midst as they play and bathe in the mud.
