Picture the natural textures of wood and stone, clean lines, generous use of glass and an easy flow between indoor and outdoor spaces – there's a touch of Scandinavian sensibilities in Silvan's architecture. The soft furnishings are rich shades of royal yellow, deep purple and aquamarine, offset by charcoal and natural woods. The generous living areas, dotted with intimate seating areas, flow out to the decks through foldaway doors. And there's a pool that's long enough to swim laps.

The six suites are positively palatial, with sleek, modern interiors, refined furnishings brightened with rich touches of colour, and a clear focus on privacy and comfort. The beds are vast and deep, with mosquito netting to protect you at night. At the rear, the large bathroom has a walk-in shower, a deep bath, and exceptional fittings. The two elegant seating areas are serviced by a well-equipped coffee bar and minibar. The larger family unit has two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

Sabi Sand is legendary for its game viewing. Not only is it home to the Big Five and a host of other species (including cheetah, wild dog, hyena, giraffe, and birds), but they're found here in impressive numbers. It's especially well-known for its concentration of cats – making night drives very exciting. Walks are possible too, with a guide. Being all about luxury, however, Silvan provides another whole menu of activities, from wine and gin tastings, to bush dining.
