About Simbavati Waterside

A splendid, family-friendly lodge beside a popular waterhole in a private Kruger reserve.
Sitting within one of the largest private reserves in South Africa, Simbavati Waterside certainly knows how to provide a truly exclusive safari experience. As its name suggests, the lodge is built right beside a large dam in the Klaserie Nature Reserve, where animals of every size and genus arrive to quench their thirst. From one of the many lounging spots, watch as elephant, big cats and herds of buffalo (sometimes reaching their hundreds) gather on the banks. The expectations only become higher on game drives, and on every one, you'll have a tracker to ensure you don't miss a thing. Oh, and there's only two vehicles allowed at any sighting.

Property details

The property

Simbavati has style, and plenty of it, with a cosy and neutral colour palette, handmade, organic lampshades and art inspired by South African motifs. There is plenty of space to relax and soak up the scenery be it at the bar, the lounge, from the pool or either of the two bomas: the 'Beach', which sits at eye-level with the dam, or the 'Bush', which serves campfire-style dinners under the stars. Then there's the spa where you can indulge in a traditional African massage using Healing Earth products.

The rooms

Simbavati has eight beautiful suites, draped in white and grey textiles, and adorned with cushy armchairs, fringed lamps and wildlife-inspired artwork. They are practical too and you'll find fans, electric blankets, hair dryers, minibars and eco-friendly insect repellent that is released every few minutes Bathrooms are spacious and pristine with a double vanity, loads of cupboard space, and an outdoor rain shower. There are also four family suites - the main bedroom has its own open-plan bathroom and large tub, and two bush suites, which have a wood-fired hot tub on the deck.

Activities

The Klaserie Reserve shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park and Timbavati, meaning wildlife moves freely between them. For you, this means fabulous wildlife! On game drives, look out for the Big Five, wild dog, hyena, and around 360 species of birdlife. But then again, simply sitting in front of the dam and waiting to see what appears is rather rewarding too. Alternatively, pay a visit to the wine cellar or safari boutique to pick out a souvenir or two.

The rooms differ greatly. Some face the water or the surrounding bush, and others boast a private plunge pool heated by a wood fire burner in winter.
