The hotel's flagship eatery is the Restaurante 1621, which is only open for dinner and deserves dressing up for – it's one of the finest in the city. The menu consists of local ingredients whipped into delicious, French-style cuisine. Otherwise, there's El Claustro for a casual lunch of ceviche under the vaults or the Jardin Santa Clara for modern creations. Head to El Coro for live jazz and rum-tasting, and enjoy the innovative cocktails at the Botika Bar, which has stunning views over the Caribbean.
Spread between the original and Republican-era wings, the rooms vary in size and taste, including two-bedroom options. Across the board, they all have Sofitel's signature pillow menu, luxury linens and a Nespresso machine. Some rooms have their own balcony with views across the Caribbean (all the way to Jamaica!) and a hot tub. The Presidential Suite is by far the most impressive and was designed by Fernando Botero's own daughter. It features original works, photographs and a personal book collection.
The hotel is in an ideal spot to enjoy some fantastic sightseeing in the city, whether you want to delve into the walled city, its churches, plazas and art galleries, learn all about the gold-smithing skills of the Zenu people, or take a tour of the Palace of the Inquisition. But before you head off exploring, enjoy a guided tour of the property and its religious relics. You can also make a day trip to the scenic Rosario Islands and enjoy a day on the beach.
A bombastic city on the Caribbean Coast where history colours every structure & street.
