On arrival, you'll be led past bubbling fountains, up the stately double staircase, and into the grand lobby, adorned with vivid fabrics and plenty of antiques that convey its deep heritage. Meal times can be divided between the palace's many historic dining rooms. Creative French cuisine is served in 1886, complete with gold-gilded mirrors, ruby drapes and the quiet strumming of a guitar. The original master dining room, La Corniche puts on a lovely breakfast spread and French-Egyptian dinners. Enjoy laidback moments by the pool and sunsets on the terrace or Shisha Corner.
Leaving the dazzling to the rest of the palace, the rooms are classic and comfortable with cushy beds and satin adornments in scarlet, gold and plum tones. The marble bathrooms feature double basins and large tubs. Most rooms have a balcony, from which you can enjoy views of the gardens, River Nile or the Valley of the Kings. The suites feel much the same as they would have been during royal visits with ornate, vintage furnishings, a dining area, and butler service.
The mighty River Nile flows through the middle of Luxor and there is a host of revered and remarkable temples, tombs and statues along its banks. Take in the sights from the water onboard a traditional felucca, from the sky on a hot air balloon ride, or wander on camelback along the West Bank. Staying at the Sofitel, you'll have the chance to see some of Egypt's greatest sights, from the Valley of the Kings (where King Tut was found) and famous Colossi of Memnon, to the great, centuries-old Temples of Karnak.
