About Songa Tented Camp

Catch the greatest wildlife show on earth from your camp on the Serengeti plains.
As one of the most famous journeys in the world, the Great Migration is an enthralling spectacle where a million-strong wildebeest, zebra and antelope make their way across the Serengeti. Crashing across the Mara River from mid-July, the swell of hooves and slinking predators arrive in the north where Songa enjoys incredible views from its hilltop perch. Named after the Swahili word for 'to move', the camp matches the heart beat of the migration where your days are spent getting as close to the action as you can. We're talking epic game drives with your private guide who knows this land better than anyone!

Property details

The property

Amongst the hilly kopjes of Kogatende and settled beneath a canopy of acacia trees, the camp is divided into two. Each has its own main area – a canvas lounge and mess tent with a no-fuss bar area. Open-air lounges may be arranged outside to make the most of the views or the crackle of the fire at night. The structures are simple, but there's no lack of finesse. You'll dine and lounge in rustic elegance, with white tablecloths, plush sofas and textured African rugs. Lantern-lit evenings exude the romance of old-school safaris.

The rooms

After enjoying the wildlife action, you'll be glad to disappear behind the tent flaps for a rest. The tents are roomy, with a choice of comfortable twin or king-sized beds and the possibility of an extra twin bed. Your en-suite bathroom has a flushing toilet and on-demand heated bucket showers to wash off the Serengeti dust. The atmosphere is undoubtedly romantic, with white netting shrouding the beds, crisp white linens on mattresses that guarantee a well-earned sleep, earthy rugs, and wide views from your furnished veranda.

Activities

In this section of the Serengeti, the pulse-quickening Migration thunders across the plains and the camp is perfectly positioned for a front row view. Game drives are the only activity around here and they're the best way to follow the action. Apart from, perhaps, an unforgettable hot air balloon ride! You'll experience zebra, wildebeest and antelope stampeding through the savannah and acacia woodlands, their predators in silent pursuit. Not to mention, the chance to see every member of the Big Five. The vehicles' closed sides keep out the dust, but large windows and pop-top roofs mean you don't miss a thing. Cameras at the ready!

There are no night drives in this part of the Serengeti but fireside evenings under the stars are still rather special.
