About Sovereign House

When a lodge has a name like Sovereign, you know you're in for a vacation in a million
Set against the Botswana border, close to the Kalahari Desert, Madikwe Game Reserve is the fifth-largest sanctuary in South Africa. It's also regarded as one of Africa's best, with excellent accommodation and even better wildlife. The newest addition to the Royal Madikwe portfolio, Sovereign House is palatial in size, but relaxed and homely, with three bedrooms, open-plan communal spaces, and plenty of room to sprawl. Beyond the windows and deck, the views are topographically diverse, from open grasslands and forests to the rocky Tshwene Tshwene hills. It's an ideal spot to spend some valuable private time with your loved ones.

Property details

The property

Overlooking a dam, the house’s best feature is the tiered deck that almost encircles it. With shady sala areas, built-in benches, a glorious stone fireplace and sweet little plunge pool, this is a supreme spot to linger throughout the day. Inside you’ll find an open-plan lounge and dining room with modern furnishings and oodles of cosiness. Gather around the campfire for a convivial nightcap or settle back in the library for a real slice of solitude.

The rooms

The three bedrooms sleep two guests in either a double or two twin beds. Picture windows provide plenty of natural light and exceptional views over the dam (in fact, the views from all sides are pretty amazing). En-suite bathrooms are spacious and equipped with both baths and showers. Amenities here are ample – wi-fi, aircon, TV, minibars and Nespresso machines. To say it’s a home away from home would assume an unusually flush domestic circumstance!

Activities

Activities at Madikwe offer a dynamic take on this wilderness. On-foot outings serve as a great complement to game drives, allowing you to see both the small and big attractions in the morning and afternoon. Night drives make it possible to view the lesser-seen creatures, from pangolin and aardwolf to hunting lions. This Big Five reserve is also home to wild dogs (there are good numbers in the area) and a host of fabulous birds (some 300 have been recorded).
