About Spitzkoppen Lodge

Bed down under sparkling skies in the remote Sptizkoppe area of Namibia.
In the heart of an area of rich archaeological heritage, just where the unique desert landscape meets the foot of the spectacular Spitzkoppe Massif, is Spitzkoppen Lodge, a new addition to the Namibian lodge scene. Taking full advantage of the views over the granite boulders and scattered rocks that have dominated this desert landscape for 150 million years, the lodge is an alluring place of cultural and spiritual significance to the San. It's also as far away as you can get from the well-trodden tourist trails, and the perfect place for those seeking to enjoy the glorious mountain range and surrounding desert in all its uninterrupted vastness.

Property details

The property

The connected walkways that link the rooms lead you to a beautifully spacious and open main dining area, floor to ceiling glass windows reflecting the boulders, thorn bushes and desert sands that dominate the landscape. Tiered chandeliers hang under light canvas tent roofs and a curved wooden bar opens out to the most impressive natural rock pool flanked by split level decks and fire pit areas and 360° view onto the granite boulders.

The rooms

The 15 chalets are linked by raised wooden walkways, snaking across the lengths of the boulders. Styled with white-washed wooden sides and under a ceiling of bedouin canvas, each of the chalets is designed to provide maximum privacy and picture-perfect views from the private deck. Inside, the chalets feel fresh and bright with a touch of the contemporary - think spangly light fittings and art-deco rugs. Ensuite bathrooms are clean and fresh with fabulous marble and wood basins, and enormous sparkling mirrors.

Activities

Being in such a diverse and biologically interesting landscape, there is plenty to do when it comes to activities at Spitzkoppen. Visit the archeological sites in the area, including the caves adorned with ancient bushmen paintings and the National Monument of Bushman’s Paradise. There are also plenty of bouldering and climbing opportunities (with over 100 routes to choose from!) that can be organised on site, alongside spectacular hiking trails and birding walks to see the different species in the area.
