Franschhoek is famous for its wine estates and destination restaurants, but this 17th-century farmstead at the foot of the valley's mountains is doing something quite different. Named after the starry peak above it, the farm spans 50 hectares of biodiverse Western Cape land: productive gardens, a converted Bath House apothecary, a creative arts studio, and plenty of very good food. Founders Nicole and Fleur envisioned a place that is genuinely luxurious and restorative in equal measure. You might spend your days baking sourdough, potting clay in the Atelier, or doing absolutely nothing at all...

The farm's original manor now serves as a blissful Bath House and apothecary, where daily spa rituals take place in treatment rooms inspired by everywhere from Morocco to India. There's also a yoga yurt beside the boating lake, an Atelier offering a sun-filled studio for painting, sculpting, and pottery, and the Soul Shed, home of sound healing and chakra sessions. Between it all, there are deep armchairs by the kitchen fire, a courtyard for candlelit summer dinners, and more hidden corners than you could discover in a single stay.
Styled as private sanctuaries rather than hotel rooms, the suites are scattered between the historic main house and the farm's heritage buildings. Each is a treasure trove of elaborate murals, handcrafted furniture, and textiles sourced from the founders' extensive travels. Terracotta walls sit behind copper bathtubs in some, whilst others have four-poster Lamu-style beds and outdoor garden showers. Larger rejuvenating suites have private terraces and a more generous living space. Sterrekopje-made toiletries, herbal teas from the farm's own plants, and a personalised minibar come as standard.
Mornings often begin at sunrise with the garden harvest, the daily ritual that feeds everything from breakfast to the evening menu. From there, you might follow the chef into the bakery for sourdough lessons, head to the Atelier for pottery, or borrow a bike for a ride into Franschhoek. The keen-footed can hike Sterrekopje mountain or take a canoe across the farm dam at dusk. Hammam sessions, sound healing, and guided meditation in the Soul Shed fill any gaps – or not, if doing nothing is more appealing.
The feeling, after a day of sunrise harvests, hammam rituals, and meals made from that morning's garden haul, that you've somehow reset yourself completely.
Let the chef know what you're craving on arrival – there's no fixed menu, and the kitchen builds meals around your tastes and the day's harvest.
You're charged per person rather than per room, so costs add up quickly for couples – but all meals, drinks, spa treatments and activities are included.
