With uninterrupted views of the rice paddies and tropical jungle, the airy Tempayan restaurant serves an array of western and Asian specialities, all prepared by the Singapore-born executive chef. The Indonesian Rijsttafel is particularly noteworthy! Beneath a stunning mural, take a seat in the Panen Padi Lounge for afternoon tea or sunset cocktails, then head to the spa for bespoke treatment overlooking the rolling countryside. There's also a yoga studio and 25-metre pool with a view of Mount Agung.
The resort has a total of 20 villas, which range from one to two-bedroom, some of which have their own pool. The villas are scattered at generous intervals to ensure privacy and all have hand-carved furnishings and original Balinese artwork from Hadripana's collection. The one-bedroom villas sit within a grove of palms where you can recline or dine in the cosy bale. Bathrooms are equipped with dual sinks, indoor showers and alfresco soaking tubs. The grandest offering is the Hadiprana Estate, which was the family's original home.
There's plenty to do at Tanah Gajah, whether you fancy a spot of morning yoga, guided walks through the rice paddies, or adventures in a zippy jungle buggy. Of course, you can also explore the gems of Ubud including the iconic monkey forest, stunning art galleries, and temples. Should you feel inspired by Hadiprana's art collection, try your hand at painting, or push yourself in the kitchen with a cooking class. And for the best views around, take to the skies in a hot air balloon.
