About Tangala House

A super-stylish home from home near the mist-shrouded Victoria Falls.
A picture-perfect property straight from the pages of a lifestyle magazine (well, it did feature in UK's Home & Garden), accommodation doesn't get more exclusive than Tangala House, a beautifully furnished and equipped family home on the banks of the Zambezi. It even comes with its own chef and experienced guide. Ideal for a low-key family holiday, Tangala lies 15 kilometres upstream from the falls on the Zambian side, just outside the town of Livingstone, so you have access to a panoply of activities, from bungee jumping and river rafting to chilling beside the river, savouring the view.

Property details

The property

You enter the thatched house through a Moroccan archway and covered pathway that leads to a sprawling lounge, eclectically decorated with African and European touches and furnished with cushy sofas. The lounge leads into the aptly named "snuggery", where you can snuggle up beside the fire with a good book and your favourite snuggle partner. The huge veranda looks out to the gardens and river beyond. There's a large, open-plan kitchen/dining area, and a fully equipped playroom for the children.

The rooms

Tangala's four bedrooms, three with en-suite bathrooms, make it a perfect destination for six adults plus a few little ones. Rooms are decorated individually, but each has a gleaming wood or polished concrete floor and Persian-inspired rugs, and a four-poster bed draped with gauzy mosquito netting. All rooms make the most of the stunning views with large windows and double doors opening to the garden. The en-suite bathrooms are movie-star fabulous, with deliciously deep bathtubs.

Activities

You're spoilt for choice in the Livingstone/Victoria Falls area. Adventure junkies can try zip-lining, gorge swinging, bungee jumping or white-water rafting. For a mellower day out, take a guided canoe or birding safari, and spend time in the Masi-oa-Tunya National Park gazing at the falls. Go on a river cruise for some hippo and crocodile spotting. Keen on fishing? Try bream and tigerfish angling. Or visit a local school. Your personal guide will arrange your day as you wish.

Insiders Tip

Leave plenty of space to enjoy the chef’s talents. Think sumptuous picnic spreads, homemade snacks and sweet treats, and five-star extravaganzas for dinner.
