The main area is a large thatched complex, slightly raised on wooden stilts on the hillside, with magnificent views across the savanna below. Lower down the slope, a huge rim-flow pool with sunloungers is both cooling and a great vantage point. Inside, the decor is brand new and stylish. Comfortable sofas and plush armchairs make the perfect spot to relax between activities, and the dining room conjures up a romantic yet modern camp feel at mealtimes.
Natural stone walkways link the main areas to 15 luxury tent units that are staggered on the slopes at least 25 metres apart to allow total privacy. These thatched, slightly elevated suites have private wooden decks furnished with canvas camp chairs. Glass double doors open to a spacious bedroom with all the trimmings – a double bed, comfy chairs and, appealingly, an en-suite bathroom with a tub, double basins and an indoor and outdoor shower, reached via a covered walkway.
Tarangire is an underrated park. But this green and lovely space experiences a migration of its own, when up to a quarter of a million large mammals, including zebra, wildebeest, elephant, buffalo, giraffe and antelope, arrive between June and November to congregate along the Tarangire River and several of the park's swamps. Elephants can number 10,000, making for some of the most concentrated elephant viewing on the continent. During the December-to-May green season, the park is at its natural prettiest.
