About Teufelskrallen Tented Lodge

Desert vistas at this smartly conceived stop-over point
Not a tourist hot-spot or a wildlife destination of note, though Teufelskrallen Tented Lodge is a beautifully constructed convenient layover between Namibia's disparate attractions. On the edge of the Kalahari with red dune landscapes and camel thorn scrub, it offers serene vistas and desert quietude. This lodge is only appropriate for guests driving themselves, not least because the reception area, restaurant, bar, communal pool and lounge areas are a good three kilometers away from the tents. The independence and anonymity are a part of this lodge's charm however, making it more than just a functional place to rest your head.

Property details

The property

The Altes Farmhaus is the lodge's simple and tastefully decorated reception, restaurant and common area. It's located three kilometers from the actual accommodation. Here you'll be greeted with a cold welcome drink upon arrival and directed to your tent. Outside you'll find a lovely shade-dappled patio and pool area complete with under-cover hammock. Meals are served from the farmhouse - breakfasts usually in the garden and dinners inside by candlelight. Unwind here after a long day's drive or catch up with the world with free wi-fi.

The rooms

There are two markedly different styles of accommodation here, though they maintain the same price point. All six rooms are perched on a dune overlooking the vast desert. Each are appointed with a mini fridge and its own view-exploiting bathroom and shower, accessed by a few meters of boardwalk - all in the name of making the most of every experience. The three tent houses are comfortably and tastefully furnished with large, high-backed lounge chairs and a colorful rug. They enjoy more interior space than the three cabin tents which are a bit tight inside but possess an ample outdoor veranda.

Activities

You'll mostly find plains game roaming the 10,000 acres of this Kalahari farm - from giraffe, eland and wildebeest to Hartmann’s mountain zebra, impala, oryx and kudu (amongst other species). Because there are no predators here, self-guided walks are possible - just be sure to get an early start, before the Namibian heat sets in. If you want to take a hike, well-marked trails from 5-20 km await you. Too shy to set out on your own? The lodge offers guided walks at an extra cost - as well as guided game drives if you wish.
