Full of exposed beams and polished floors, the main areas at The Bomas are as full of character as they are welcoming. The main house is home to the lounge, reception and bar and restaurant and outside, a large, shady veranda is perfectly positioned to admire the gardens and shimmering lake beyond. But the highlight has to be the swimming pool, surrounded by an assorted crew of brilliantly white loungers and wicker chairs – the best place to spend the afternoon.
There are 15 ensuite rooms in total, with two in the main house and 13 in a separate building in the gardens. Each is a slightly different size but all are united in their funky Afro-chic décor – think cool, polished floors, sunny colours and vibrant artwork. Twin and king-size beds are enshrouded in floor-length mozzie nets and the ensuite bathrooms are simple but very practical, with hot water (almost!) on tap. There’s also two family rooms and two triples if required.
Most guests at The Boma are on their way to or from the airport with a limited amount of time so understandably, there aren’t a huge number of activities on offer. The staff are, however, wonderfully helpful in organising city tours, walks and day excursions if you want to pop out and see the sights. Try the Botanic Gardens in the morning followed by a drive out to Lake Victoria for a good introduction / farewell to Uganda’s charm.
Uganda's second capital is a hassle-free town with pretty gardens and Lake Victoria to explore.
