First impressions, upon entering the glass-fronted foyer, is the unusual décor which features bold use of colours and unexpected variations of traditional African designs. The open-plan lounge, bar and breakfast area is furnished with avant-garde style and retro touches, with a wonderful woodburner for the chilly winter evenings. The bar stays open until late so guests are able to enjoy a night out on the town, and return to linger over a nightcap.
There are 55 rooms in total, with ten loft-style family rooms on the second floor, and the remaining twin rooms spread between the first and second floors. All are en-suite, with satellite television and Wi-Fi. Décor is very much the same as in the main guest area - refreshingly bright, practical, and funky. The rooms flank a central courtyard, with some facing across the street, which can be busy, or the quieter area at the rear of the hotel.
Swakopmund is an interesting town and is especially popular with travellers seeking adventure, as there are many activities on offer. Tours to the surrounding desert for quadbiking are easily arranged, and the hotel staff are always happy to make recommendations and suggestions if you’re not sure. The town itself is lovely to explore and there are a number of fine restaurants and lively bars within a short walk of the hotel along the beachfront and harbour wall. Plus, a plethora of water sports to blow your hair back.
