About The Last Word Franschhoek

Romantic, French Provençale-inspired living in the heart of Franschhoek village.

Known simply as ‘The Franschhoek’ to many, the friendly team at The Last Word have managed to encapsulate the best of this pretty winelands village into one smart, elegant and beautifully furnished boutique hotel. Hidden in a splendid garden of dazzling bougainvillea and delicate roses just off Franschhoek’s main street, the hotel is as refined and sophisticated as the world-class wineries that surround it. If you’re looking for some soul-seeping tranquillity and a quiet, romantic base amidst the vines then this is the place for you.

Property details

The property

The beautiful Cape Huguenot house has been carefully restored and is full of handsome traditional furniture balanced with stylish contemporary art, lots of natural light and some seriously soothing tones. Inside, sample some of the local grapes in the spacious lounge area and outside, take in the view of the magnificent Franschhoek Mountains from the wooden veranda. A small swimming pool is the perfect place for a lingering float after a long day wine tasting.

The rooms

With only 10 rooms, attention to detail is second to none. Expect fresh flowers in your room, whiskey decanters, a complimentary (and very well stocked!) minibar and stacks of fluffy towels, lavish toiletries and crisp sheets. All rooms are light and bright with a touch of French chic and spacious marble bathrooms. The Double rooms have private garden patios and the superior Pool rooms have the addition of a private pool, courtyard and lounge area. This is the crème de la crème of hotel living.

Activities

With a host of spectacular wineries and restaurants on the doorstep, it would be rude not to explore the epicurean capital of SA and all its delights. Take advantage of the hotel’s chauffeur service and travel in style around the farms, hop on the vintage tram or even hire a bike and speed around at your leisure. Spa treatments and picnics can be arranged through the hotel for the ultimate indulgence and the team are always willing to share their personal recommendations.

Why we love it
