The Manor at Ngorongoro is located about an hour's drive away from the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania, and half an hour from Lake Manyara. Although only built in 2008, it's a perfect replication of the 18th and 19th century colonial-style mansions, typical of South Africa's Cape winelands, and there really is nothing like it in Tanzania. Instead of being surrounded by vineyards, The Manor is set amidst a beautiful, sprawling coffee estate and the most manicured of gardens, and offers a level of service, luxury and charm that's definitely hard to beat.

Built where the estate's old farm house once stood, the main, Cape Dutch-style building sits atop a hill with impressive views of the surrounding plantations. Inside you'll find several comfortable sitting rooms, a bar and dining room (complete with grand piano), downstairs snooker room, wine cellar and mini cinema (really!). Outside, there's a large pool overlooking the sprawling gardens, alongside a croquet lawn, vegetable patch, fully-equipped spa, and stables that are home to three horses and a pony. Wow, indeed!
Divided into two suites to make a total of 18 double rooms, the nine pretty cottages are spread throughout the gardens for the utmost privacy. Each has a spacious bedroom and separate lounge area, a magnificent double-sided fireplace for chilly evenings, and a pretty outdoor patio. Then there's the bathrooms: heated floors, free-standing bathtubs, large showers, twin basins and beautiful toiletries... It's possible you might never leave! There's also a family cottage that sleeps six, with a children's playroom and funky, kiddie-sized bathroom.
The main attraction for most visitors are the well-known parks of Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara, and game drives in both are available. Closer to home, discover the estate and the surrounding farmlands on foot, on horseback or on a mountain bike, take a tour of the coffee plantation, or go for a guided hike in the Ngorogoro Forest and explore the famous elephant caves. The lodge will happily set up a picnic or a sundowner for you in one of the many beautiful locations en route.
The farm setting and manicured grounds are blissfully peaceful and very quiet - perfect if you're looking to incorporate a spot of R&R into your trip.
Take a break from game drives with a leisurely horse ride around the estate, finishing up with a delectable picnic spread in the gardens.
The Cape Dutch architecture and somewhat extravagant facilities might not appeal to everyone!
