In the main area, beams created from old tree trunks support the canvas roof, and the rolled-up walls provide uninterrupted views of the plains and waterhole. Inside is a long, family-sized teak dining table and an open-plan lounge with several cushioned chairs. Wooden floors, colourful woven rugs and old chests add a refined, yesteryear safari atmosphere. Outside, a plunge pool is perfect to cool off during the heat, and the firepit draws you in at night.
The Private Hide sleeps just 10 (six adults and four children) in three tents, although an additional tent can be arranged. The tents are lovely, with polished concrete or wooden floors, canvas sides and a thatched roof. The en-suite bathrooms have an indoor tub and shower, and each unit has an outdoor shower if you enjoy soaping yourself beneath the stars. There's plenty of storage space and several places to sit, including a little veranda out front.
Your flexible schedule includes morning and late afternoon game drives, or night drives to see the nocturnal creatures. Hwange is home to the Big Five, especially buffalo and elephant, and it's one of Africa's best places to find wild dogs. Explore the intricacies of the bush on a guided game walk, or sit in a hide for some up-close wildlife watching. Game viewing is better in winter, although summer rains bring lush bush springing with new life and good birdwatching.
Spot enormous elephants and plenty of predators in Zimbabwe’s safari hotspot.
