Stylish with a capital ‘S’, the hotel is a haven of city sophistication with a dash of rural chic thrown in for good measure. Walk in the front door to the reception and dining area - light, bright spaces that are accessorised with bright furniture, splashy artworks and quirky lights. Outside, there are plenty of sofas and seating areas tucked into quiet nooks and crannies and of course, the two swimming pools both surrounded by swishy sun loungers and pristine umbrellas. Dining is an exquisite affair; the dinner and lunch menus are small but refined and offer the very best of South African tastes.
Rooms at The Robertson come in three shapes and sizes. The lofty Manor House rooms are located in the main house and come complete with white-washed walls, sparkly bathrooms and large verandahs. Three Stable Suites are in a separate building, each with a perfectly private outdoor seating area overlooking a swimming pool (and the biggest bathrooms we've ever seen!), whilst the contemporary Pool Suites open directly onto a second pool for extra glamour.
The Robertson Wine Route is one of the longest wine routes in the world and there's certainly no shortage of activities to get stuck into. There are plenty of wineries to pop into for tastings - Graham Beck for bubbles and Springfield for glass of white by the river are two of our favourites. If you're feeling active, pop into Viljoensdrift and book a lazy cruise down the Breede River or head into the mountains behind Van Louveren to stretch your legs. You'll be rewarded by the most stunning views of the valley spread out like a magic carpet below.
