Thai architecture inspires the interiors at The Surin, and it's not hard to see the influence taken from temples, with plenty of open-air pavilions dotted around the grounds. There are lots of gourmet treats to choose from, with three restaurants (offering everything from local cuisine to Mediterranean fare) and a delicious in-villa menu for those evenings where you just want to take it easy. But the pièce de résistance has to be the beachside seafood BBQ, where the day's catch is charred to perfection.
There are 102 white cottages dotted around the hillside, all connected with a network of paths and stairs. All are crisply decorated and enjoy King size beds, gardens and sunbathing decks. There are a few different options and prices depend on the placement of the cottages. Pretty much all of them have sea views but the beach suites are probably the most lusted after, for their location right next to the lapping waves.
Water babies can make the most of this stunning location with sailing, snorkelling, diving, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and body boarding. Equipment is mostly free to hire from the local waterspouts centre. Top Gun fans can make like Maverick with a spot of beach volleyball, and those looking to kick back will enjoy lazing by the hexagonal pool or sampling a yoga class or two. There's also a small spa for the best sort of R&R.
A diverse beach haven with something for honeymooners, flashpackers, families and über jetsetters.
