About The Swahili House

A charming hotel with traditional influences and modern day facilities.
The Swahili House is located in the centre of Zanzibar's historic Stone Town amongst the bustling market, shops, restaurants and other points of interest. It combines traditional Swahili influences and authentic hospitality with modern day facilities. Originally set up and used as a grand Indian merchant house in the 19th century, the building later became a home to the sultan's family. The hotel has a great rooftop terrace which offers great views of the surroundings. The service is great and professional guides can be arranged to assist guests in discovering Stone Town and its hundreds of little streets.

The property

The impressive building has five floors that are arranged around a beautiful traditional Zanzibar courtyard. The fifth floor terrace is one of the highest in Stone Town. It offers stunning views, a jacuzzi, a relaxing plunge pool, a sundeck lounge and a restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant’s food is of excellent quality and the restaurant manager goes out of his way to make guests feel welcome. The hotel has free wireless internet access.

The rooms

The hotel has twenty-two rooms that are spread out over 4 floors. There are four Sultan suites which are large, spacious rooms with balconies and eighteen Deluxe rooms which are standard double or twin rooms. The rooms all are restored and decorated in traditional Swahili style with handcrafted furniture, Zanzibari beds and colourful cushions and throws - but have been adjusted to Western standards. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms and are fitted with ceiling fans, mosquito nets and air conditioning.

Activities

Guests can relax in the hot tub on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Indian Ocean and enjoy the great views of Stone Town. Exotic Spice Plantation Tours, visits to the Jozani Forest, and Stone Town Tours can be arranged. There are also other exciting tours like the Zanzibar Cooking Tour which offers an authentic Swahili cooking experience, the Safari Blue Tour - an exciting sea adventure trip, and the North Coast tour which takes you to visit Portuguese Ruins.
