About The Terraces At Chambray Estate

A stylish group of worker’s cottages that set a high standard in Franschhoek.
‘We went out for breakfast one morning and came back with a farm!’ says Jacques Botha, owner of the delightful new boutique wine farm, Chambray Estate. And it’s not just any old farm either, but home to The Terraces – four new and impeccably designed guest cottages with fabulous views across the Bo-Hoek valley to the iconic Franschhoek mountains. Sporting cool-as-a-cucumber interiors, outdoor verandas for a morning read and an evening G&T and a shared pool (particularly lovely for a dip after a hard day’s wine tasting) the cottages are a superb new addition to Franschhoek’s accommodation scene. And once you’ve had a taster, we guarantee you’ll be back…

Property details

The property

There are no communal main areas as such but the enticingly-cool swimming pool is set amidst the gardens outside Cottage 3 and accessible for all. Sunloungers for each cottage are dotted around the grass and if the heat gets too much, take cover on a wicker sofa on your porch. In the morning continental breakfasts are served on each private veranda, complete with white tablecloth and freshly baked pastries. Perfect.

The rooms

We’re not sure which of the four cottages we love most – with a cool blue and white interior, number one has an outdoor shower with a view, whilst three has a bathtub big enough to do a couple of laps in. Two is fabulously fresh and light (and connected to number one if you’re travelling with friends) whilst four, right on the end, is probably the most private. But whichever you choose, expect generous dressing areas, sleek Nespresso machines and top-notch furnishings. Decisions, decisions.

Activities

Located in the heart of the Cape Winelands, Franschhoek is all about the wine. Whilst Chambray isn’t offering wine tastings (yet), stroll down the road to Holden Manz or Le Lude for a tasting and a bite to eat. Five minutes in the car and you’re in Franschhoek village with it’s buzzy restaurants, cafes and shops. If you fancy a spot of exercise after all that wining and dining, head up to Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve for a stroll with a view or peddle around the vineyards on a bicycle tour.

The fresh orange juice, coffee and basket of warm croissants, delivered to your door every morning, and to be enjoyed with the incredible views of the mountains.

Insiders Tip

The farm has started producing its own wine and we hear the Cabernet Sauvignon is the one to look out for… Watch this space.

Something to think about

Although you’re certainly not far from the village, you’ll need a hire car to reach the restaurants and cafes – or simply ask the lovely Jacques to book you a taxi.
