As a stylish stop before escaping into the wilds of Namibia or to catch your breath after a desert safari, Am Weinberg has earned its place among Windhoek's finest. Cocooned by a lush valley (breathe in those unbeatable views over a morning cuppa), the hotel has the look of a chic villa. Tuck into inventive cuisine under pinstriped umbrellas or replenish your relaxation levels at the Soulstice Spa. Overlooking the sunny courtyard, the rooms are dapper and fresh - and if its true privacy you're after, the spacious lofts are top drawer. On a walkabout through Windhoek you'll find scrumptious pastries and interesting history at every turn.

Despite its contemporary flair, Am Weinberg nods to a long heritage with its sweeping entrance hall adorned with large oil paintings and The Library, where heavy-set leather couches and a crackling fire make for a cosy evening setting. 'Sit back and relax' is the motto here and you'll have plenty opportunity to do so - from reading in the garden to sundowners at the Sky Lounge. The hotel's two restaurants offer dishes that cater to every taste, accompanied by the wine of your choice. And when you're ready to cool off, the rooftop pool beckons.
Sharp and classy, the rooms at Am Weinberg were designed for utmost comfort. A cool palette of greys sweeps across the Scandinavian style lounge area and mod cabinets, punctuated by a pop of florals on the large beds. The ground-floor rooms open onto the fountain courtyard while top-floor rooms enjoy a private balcony. The double-storey Oasis Lofts feature a quirky and colourful kitchen area, floor-to-ceiling windows and extra-length beds. The bathrooms have an industrial feel with white brick walls and an open rainfall shower (the lofts have a bathtub too). Other amenities include a TV and satellite channels, international plug points and a safe.
After you've had your fill of gourmet dishes and lounging by the pool, there's plenty to see in Windhoek. As Namibia's capital city, it's filled with European overtones from its Gothic churches to the grand museums. The historic streets are worth a wander and you'll have the chance to learn all about the country's hard-won independence at the poignant Hero's Acre Monument. In true Namibian fashion, there are rather unique attractions too, from sampling Windhoek Lager at the brewery to spotting Gideon's fallen meteorites as you stroll down Post Street Mall. There's no shortage of street markets to find the perfect souvenir either!
Supplied with water fresh from natural hot springs, the spa offers Turkish mud baths, floatation therapy and soaks in the heated jet pool.
The delicatessen has a superb array of imported cheeses, homemade pies and pastries - why not request a picnic to take on a walk through the estate?
With 41 rooms, the hotel may feel less intimate than you might expect but it doesn't lose any charm.
