The Z Hotel is all about views, views... and more views. The main areas of the hotel are very close together, but the breezy, double-height ceilings add a sense of space - and make the most of the ocean views. An outside area on a raised wooden deck is the perfect spot for candlelight dinners a deux, while to the side is a cool swimming pool, surrounded by thick garden foliage and pristine white loungers. For meals, head to restaurant Sarruche for Asian-fusion tapas and indulgent sharing platters, whilst listening to the waves.
The 30 hotel suites are well-proportioned and bright. Coconut wood furniture sits stop polished marble floors, and vibrant Shweshwe fabrics and quirky wall paper are contrasted with crisp, white linens on the four poster beds. All rooms have a balcony, some with french doors facing the gardens, others overlooking the ocean. With five different room types, it's up to you whether you want to admire the sea views or bask in the sun on one of the roof top suites.
Zanzibar is famous for its water sports, and Nungwi has no shortage - the hotel can arrange kitesurfing, sailing and kayaking with a number of excellent, local operators, and the nearby diving school offers courses for everyone from beginners to experts. If land based actives are more your style, try the walking village tours, spice tours and visits to Stone Town, Jozani forest, or just soak up the Vitamin D at the hotel and enjoy some island R&R.
