Three Tree Hill Lodge is set against the magnificent backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains, and overlooks the secluded Mfazimnyama Valley of the Spioenkop Game Reserve. It is an owner-managed, eco-friendly, historic lodge offering spectacular scenery, locally grown farm-style country food and warm hospitality in a relaxed atmosphere. The lodge has 6 double/twin cottages along with 3 self contained cottages namely Kiplings Family, Churchills and Burchells which can accommodate different group sizes and offer different views of the reserve depending on where you stay. It is also the perfect base to explore the major Anglo-Boer War Battlefields in KwaZulu Natal, and the Northern Drakensberg Mountains, a world heritage site. History and wildlife enthusiasts will love this comfortable and welcoming lodge.




The main living area is open plan, with large double doors leading onto the verandah. There is a viewing deck and a swimming pool which is kept warm by an insulated thermal blanket at night. Buffet style breakfasts and lunches are served on the viewing deck or on the verandah. Dinners are served in front of the fireplace or under the stars. The lounge is adorned with historical memorabilia and a collection of books and games for guests to enjoy.
There are six bright rooms decorated with antique windows, wood panel interiors and corrugated iron cladding exteriors to create a colonial atmosphere. They have private decks offering unimpeded views of the valley , ceiling fans, wall panel heaters and tea and coffee-making facilities. Additionally, there are 3 self contained cottages namely Kiplings Family, Churchills and Burchells, each cottage has its own shower and bathtub overlooking the valley. The bedrooms are equipped with modern conveniences like heated towel rails, hand-embroidered linen and South African made down duvets and pillows.
There are many outdoor activities around the lodge including birding, nature walking trails, game walks and rhino tracking, mountain biking and horse trail riding. Other activities in the area are hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains, canopy tours, hot air ballooning, white water rafting, San Rock Art Exploration, helicopter rides and golf. Even children will not be bored with the nature based entertainment and physical activities such as croquet,nature walks, and pony rides. Battlefield tours are also available.
