Property details

The property

Rustic luxury and soothing spaces are terms that come to mind when describing Umngazi River Bungalows. The interiors and exterior communal areas were recently revamped, so all is perfect within that lovely green subtropical setting. Enjoy unhurried riverside breakfasts and delicious home-style dinners (the fish couldn't be fresher!). Relax on the deck or head to the Green Door cellar to mull over life's mysteries with a glass of something lovely. There's a pool and tennis court, and a hillside spa.

The rooms

The award-winning family resort and spa has 69 child-friendly thatched bungalows to offer, each with sea, river and garden views. Newly marrieds will enjoy the privacy of the lovely honeymoon suites, and anyone wanting real exclusivity can book one of the Ntabeni ("on the hillside") spa suites. The bungalows are thatched, with calm, stylish interiors and everything you need for a good break. The views, of course, are Wild Coast wonderful.

Activities

Do as much or as little as you want. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike the gorgeous white-sand beach, investigate the mangrove swamp, take a bird-watching tour, canoe on the river, fish or do some underwater exploration. Feeling lazier? Listen to birds bickering in the trees as you have a massage, lounge beside the pool, or simply sit and gaze at the ocean. There's lots for children to do too, and an on-site nanny service should you wish to dine à deux.
