About Victoria & Alfred Hotel

Historical charm and good, four-star luxury in Cape Town's iconic Waterfront area.
Colonial Cape in style, the Victoria and Alfred Hotel pays tribute to England's former queen and her son, who visited the Cape in 1870. This charmer of a hostelry overlooks the bustle and busyness of the Waterfront, where seals and visitors frolic and the ferry heads off to Robben Island. This is a world-class hotel, the last word in luxury, comfort and charm, with endearing extras like a personalised hand-written welcome notes and extremely friendly staff determined to make your stay happy. Spend your days exploring Cape Town's sights in a sidecar, or sip sundowners on a catamaran.

Property details

The property

The main restaurant, Ginja, spans the hotel's ground floor, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors that make the most of the glorious harbour and mountain views. The furnishings are classical and comfortable, and the menu delivers everything you'd expect, and more (don't miss the tapas!). Head to Dash restaurant (named for Queen Victoria's beloved spaniel) for some fine dining, and to OYO restaurant and cocktail bar for its great menu and relaxed atmosphere. There's a pool and a spa for post-sightseeing pampering.

The rooms

Spread over two floors are 94 en-suite rooms overlooking either the Alfred Basin and Table Mountain or the Piazza below (great for people watching), and a peek of the mountain. Sophisticatedly furnished with plush fabrics in patriotic red, white and blue, the rooms have king-sized beds, a bathroom with bath and separate shower (the Charlotte Rhys toiletries are superb), a TV and well-stocked minibar.

Activities

There are a myriad activities walking distance of the hotel, including the high-end craft market, boat tours, cinema, world-renowned Two Oceans Aquarium and access to bus tours. The on-site spa has an extensive treatment menu; and there's state-of-the-art gym and pool area. Venture further afield to explore just some of the Mother City's thrilling attractions, from the cable car to the Winelands. At Reception, book a sidecar ride to see the sights, or a sundowner trip aboard a catamaran.

The location has to have a mention here. Smack bang in the middle of the city’s most iconic area, just about everything is on your doorstep.

Insiders Tip

We’d highly recommend booking a room with a view of Cape Town’s beloved mountain. The piazza on the other side just doesn’t quite match up…
Something to think about

Something to think about

Probably the fact that you are in the heart of a commercial area and for all its positives, there are a few negatives too, namely the hustle and bustle.
