Voyager Ziwani Tented Camp sits on the outskirts of southern Kenya's Tsavo West National Park. On the edge of a small lagoon near the Santee River and within a private sanctuary, it enjoys an ever-constant parade of hippos, crocs and numerous water birds, to name but a few. Ziwani is part of a collection of Kenyan camps, known for their sociable, high-energy atmosphere, and there's plenty of activities on offer, fro guided game walks to night drives. The kids club in particular is a highlight and little ones will be well looked-after and entertained!

A large swatch of green grass sweeps the space between the camp's restaurant and the dam. Here, you'll find a campfire area and plenty of broad-canopied trees. A wooden jetty extends over the water and has been known to be the site of private candle-lit dinners. The open-sided restaurant has an inside-out feel and rustic ambiance. With high ceilings and lots of natural light, it's also a fine place to dine or rest between activities.
There are 25 tents strung out along paved walkways, each with views across the dam and Mount Kilimanjaro in the background. Structures are made of canvas and slightly elevated above the grass with a spacious furnished wooden deck out front and shaded thatched coverings. They have mesh windows, zipper doors and tiled floors. At the rear of each is a built-in closet that forms part of a partition wall, behind which is the bathroom, with shower, basin and toilet. Rooms accommodate two or three guests in single or double bed configurations.
Voyager Ziwani is well known for its variety of entertainment and activities. Staff also double as entertainers, showcasing their traditional Maasai dancing come evening. The complimentary walking safari from camp takes things slow - the right speed to take in the botanical diversity, bird life and oft-overlooked little critters. The private location also means night drives are available and whilst game drives in Tsavo West National Park are arranged separately, they are well worth it.
This game-rich private sanctuary offers easy access to Tsavo West, but also means you've got somewhere quiet to retreat home to. Oh, and it allows activities like game drives, not available in the national park.
The kids club is truly excellent and runs a variety of fun and educational activities throughout the day to keep the littlies engaged.
Safari veterans may find Ziwani a little contrived with its evening entertainment and low-key game walks.
