About Wolwedans Desert Lodge

Jaw-dropping scenery from this classic lodge in the NamibRand.
Set amongst the phenomenal landscapes of the Namib Desert, this elegant, stylish tented lodge has magnificent panoramic views of the 2100 km2 Namibrand reserve in all directions. This privately owned gem borders the famous Sossusvlei area to its west and boasts plenty of its own awe-inspiring scenery. Wolwedans Desert Lodge prides itself on delivering a personal experience full of luxury, privacy and tranquility. It is one of four Wolwedans camps which also include Dune Camp, Boulders Camp and Wolwedans Plains Camp. The reserve offers a pristine wilderness experience, with considerably fewer tourists than the neighbouring national park (though a visit there is still highly recommended). You'll find an array of laid back activities here, and although you may see some interesting desert-adapted species of plants and animals, the focus is certainly on the majestic scenery.

Property details

The property

The main areas have all the structure of a lodge – wood, canvas and permanent buildings – but really, the ambiance is far more reflective of a traditional safari camp. There are several partially separated decks, all adorned with comfy armchairs and one of the most spectacular views in the reserve and. The lodge also boasts its own organic garden (produce goes straight into the open-plan kitchen) and a smart wine cellar.

The rooms

There are ten spacious, airy wood and canvas chalets, including one family suite comprising two bedrooms that share a bathroom and veranda. They're built on raised, split-level decks with cushioned reclining chairs and cylindrical plunge pools known as ‘Wolwedans Chillers.’ The bedrooms have solid wooden four-poster beds draped with mosquito nets, a desk, a table, a luggage rack and several chairs - and all-round stunning vistas. Each chalet has an ensuite bathroom with a solar powered shower, twin basins and a variety of complimentary amenities.

Activities

Where you lay your head is important, but the NamibRand is all about exploring the endless landscapes that will shift your perspective forever. Accompany the Bushmen on walks along ancient desert trails and search for wildlife and game drive in open vehicles to admire the scenery, or take things to the next level and opt for a horse-ride or e-bike safari. Sundowners are an essential part of the day, and usually take place in a suitably-stunning area in the reserve.

The stupendous scenery. Giant red sand dunes, desert plains and stark rocky mountain slopes provide superlative photographic opportunities, straight from camp.

Be prepared for the desert's extreme temperatures - cold nights in winter and (very) hot summer days.
