There's a spacious, open lounge with comfortable leather sofas and antique wooden chairs, and a beautiful dark-wood dining room table is elegantly set to suit your needs. The camp combines hardwood floors and canvas with roll-up flaps, ensuring uninterrupted views of the spectacular surrounding scenery. The main areas flow out onto a veranda, which leads down to another deck, complete with a small plunge pool. There’s also a separate sala (covered lounge) with a daybed and impressive 360-degree views.
There are four separate bedrooms at Plains Camp, two master bedrooms and two slightly smaller rooms and all are en-suite. Double or twin four-poster beds are draped with elegant white mosquito nets and classic leather chairs and other beautiful wooden furniture provide several places to sit. Each room has its own deck with reclining chairs to take in the view and the famous ‘Wolwedans Chillers’ – icy plunge pools that are the perfect antidote to the desert heat.
There's really no pressure to do anything here except relax, but if you would like to exploe the area, take advantage of the gentle drives and walks around the private reserve. There is a wide variety of wildlife to be seen (including elusive predators like leopards, cheetah, brown hyenas, Cape foxes, and caracals) but they are extremely hard to find. You're more likely to see gemsbok (oryx), springbok, zebra and black-backed jackals. You can also horse-ride, book a hot air balloon flight (at an extra cost), explore the dunes on an e-bike, visit the Wolwedans Village, and star gaze to your heart’s content.
