With wonderful views of San José, the three-tier dining room is entirely open on one side and decorated with beautiful, bespoke artworks. Tuck into Costa Rican specialties - try the traditional casados made with grilled fish and served on a banana leaf - or more international fare, most of which is made with ingredients from Xandari's garden. The spoiling spa offers delicious treatments like the 'chocolate delight' and you have a choice of three heated pools - the infinity pool is the spot at sunset.
24 villas are scattered along the hillside, each designed with unique touches and, cleverly, with no need for air-con. Terracotta floors, locally-crafted furnishings and white walls are a backdrop for vivid pieces that draw the eye. Each villa has floor-to-ceiling windows and a spacious balcony with rattan recliners to enjoy the view and swooping birdlife. There are various room types: some have a sitting area and others, a bathtub (the rest have showers) overlooking a walled garden. Sleeping up to six adults, the Star is the largest, and has its own lounge, dining area and kitchen.
Xandari is surrounded by thick forests and towering volcanoes, and there's ample chance to explore. Zipline through the canopy or hike along dappled forest trails, take in La Paz's five cascading waterfalls, and stand amazed at the Paos volcano crater lake, one of the world's largest active craters. The views of the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean are incredible! Spend time at Xandari with a visit to the art studio, the hummingbird garden and meet the resident goats, Twinkle and Sparkle.
