The main guest area features a vast open-plan lounge, bar and dining area under a high thatched ceiling, with expanses of richly coloured timber floors and comfortable couches set around an open fireplace. Roll-up canvas sides open onto the huge raised timber viewing deck which overlooks the waterhole in front of the lodge. An open fire pit in the centre of the deck is perfect for evenings under the stars. A small spa offers pampering sessions between activities.
Five secluded double tents are set amongst the trees a short distance from the main lodge for maximum privacy. Thatched roofs and canvas walls give a traditional safari feel, with polished wooden floors and natural textures in warm earthy tones throughout. Bathrooms are en-suite, with deep oval bath tubs beneath wide windows, and outdoor double showers. Each suite has a private deck with a plunge pool, with views of the waterhole and surrounding valley.
Twice-daily game drives are offered, together with guided bush walks, river cruises and canoe trips along the Bushman’s River. This is an ecologically diverse region, with excellent game viewing of the resident Big Five species, abundant plains game and several seldom-seen species such as brown hyena and bat-eared fox. Amakhala is renowned for its great cheetah viewing on the open plains. Birdwatching is equally rewarding. Spa treatments are available in between game viewing activities.
