About Amakhala Hlosi Game Lodge

Family is the heart of this lodge on a pretty, malaria-free reserve in the Eastern Cape.
This well established game lodge just an hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth has a choice of accommodation, from luxury suites for couples, to spacious family double suites overlooking the rolling grasslands and aloe-studded hills typical of this region. The reserve supports a thriving wildlife population, with all the Big 5 species and several rare species unique to this region, plus outstanding birdwatching. A Kid’s Safari Programe provides a fun range of bush-themed activities for young adventurers, and as this camp is fenced, it’s perfectly safe for children to roam and play.

Property details

The property

This classic safari lodge has a rambling guest area under a high thatched roof, with comfortable lounges, an indoor restaurant and an elegant bar. Hlosi combines vintage settler-style decor with modern twists throughout, and the warm glow of burnished floors and natural textures creates an inviting space in which to relax. Within the fenced grounds, kids can let off steam in the play area while parents unwind at the swimming pool overlooking the surrounding bush and waterhole nearby.

The rooms

With just six luxury suites set along a gently sloping hillside overlooking the river plains, this is an intimate choice for couples, families, or small groups. Four double suites, and two family suites with an extra bedroom, all have en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, and comfortable open-plan lounges leading onto raised private viewing decks. Double suites have a spa bath and fireplace. Both family suites have a small kitchenette for convenience, and all have heating and air-conditioning facilities.

Activities

Morning and evening game drives offer exciting encounters with an abundance of wildlife, including lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard, together with some sixteen antelope species and rarities like aardvark and brown hyena. The sheer diversity of terrain and vegetation supports an equally fascinating birdlife, with open aloe-dotted grasslands at the foot of craggy hills, stretches of woodland, and deep valleys flanking the winding Bushman’s River. River cruises and guided walks add further insight to this special piece of wilderness.

Insiders Tip

The lodge is fenced to prevent wildlife from entering so if you've got little ones, let them roam free!
Something to think about

Something to think about

We've already mentioned it but the lodge is fenced, which provides great peace of mind for parents, but also make the lodge feel slightly less 'wild.'
