About Bastion Luxury Hotel

A centrally-located, well-polished hotel embedded in the sights of Cartagena de Indias.
Built on the site of a 16th-century home in the centre of the ancient city, the Bastion combines the essence of history with the vision of contemporary Cartagena. Hand-carved in Guayacan wood, the ceilings display delicate craftsmanship and the rooms have a real vintage elegance to them. You couldn't be in a better position for exploring the old town and its finest architecture, including the beautiful Santa Catalina de Alejandria Cathedral. Then again, you might prefer to delve into modern Cartagena at one of the trendy bars or salsa spots. The Bastion offers the best of both worlds...

Property details

The property

El Gobernador by Rausch is dining at its finest with a well-loved menu known for serving traditional local cuisine with a European flair and prepared with sustainable ingredients. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and begins at 6am for those who want to get an early start – the Eggs Benedict is always a favourite. On the rooftop, you'll find a pool with panoramic views across the city, which you could spend all day admiring from a shaded lounger – with a fresh, fruity cocktail and an array of snacks, of course.

The rooms

Decorated in neutral tones and period-style furnishings, the standard rooms all have a TV, iPod docking station and Nespresso machine. The bathrooms are a delight with sienna lighting, large showers and, in some cases, a hydromassage tub. The most exclusive is the Suite de Los Reyes, which has two rooms, a living area and semi-private terrace. Some rooms also enjoy a secluded courtyard, perfect for an afternoon of reading surrounded by the babbling water features.

Activities

In between exploring, head to the spa for a massage or a dip in the outdoor hot tub. Then, its into the centre of Cartagena to gaze at the amazing architecture and plazas including the Palacio de la Inquisicion and the great fortress, Castillo San Felipe de Barajas. It's also worth making a day trip to one of the nearby islands for snorkelling amidst the reefs and lounging on the powder-soft sand. And what better way to end the day than sundowners at the Cafe del Mar?
