Property details

The property

The lounge and dining rooms are elegant, furnished with colonial and antique pieces in that sleek style that looks so effortless. Light floods the public areas, which are very spacious, with excellent views of the landscape from all corners. The broad veranda is ideal for breakfasting on a sunny morning, or candle-lit dining on a sultry night. There's a gorgeous rim-flow pool surrounded by lush vegetation, sunloungers and plenty of shade.

The rooms

Two Superior suites have large four-poster beds, high ceilings, deep armchairs, and excellent en-suite bathrooms. Superior Boardwalk and Luxury suites are on stilts, four metres above the cliff, with broad balconies accessed via French doors, and mesmerising Zuurberg views. Poolside suites are spacious and can be converted into a family room with interleading doors, and access to a private pool. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with piping-hot showers, deep tubs and brightly lit vanities. Colours throughout are gently warm.

Activities

Game drives in Addo National Park are the big drawcard here. The park's star attractions are its elephants, of course, although lion, buffalo, giraffe and a number of antelope species can also be seen, and plentiful birds. Figtree's surrounding eco-reserve yields a handful of rewarding walks and hikes, as well awesome picnicking potential. The terrain here is unique – gentle hills and valleys, studded with aloes and painted with thickets, and edged by the remote coastline of the Indian Ocean.
